Book Review: The Spiritual Archetypes

The Author

The Author of this book put out a call for readers. I had taken the Archetype quiz and found the results interesting, so I thought it was a great opportunity to explore. Her book speaks to a deeply spiritual person with a dedicated relationship with God first, above all else.

Her Amazon bio reads “Christian Kurz is an international teacher of spirituality, religion, and metaphysics. She is an ordained minister, speaker, folklorist, spirituality profiler, and author. Her award-winning book, The Spiritual Archetypes, initially created as a quiz entitled What is Your Spiritual Archetype? with correlating guidebooks, captivated audiences and has been taken and downloaded over 1 million times worldwide since its release.”

The Book

The book is a thick text of hard work broken down into seven parts. In order to navigate the book, you will need to take the quiz to find your archetype. From there, I recommend flipping to the parts that are relevant to you. You can also have fun with your friends and family! Ask them to take the quiz and read about their archetypes.

Side note, if you have issues with the use of the word “God” or bible verses, I would recommend reading the very first page about word choice. It helps explain where the author is coming from. Some of the people I consulted with didn’t like that there were bible references in chapters about shamans, but I think it is worth keeping an open mind about the approach. I think it’s more about providing fun information and different angles to explore.

When you take the quiz, you will get your top three Spiritual Archetypes. You will likely have a dominant type and a secondary type, which is described as your Ascendant sign in astrology. I was split evenly across three different types - but this often happens to me with things like this.

This book covers 25 different Archetypes including types such as “The Saint” and “The Lightworker.” There is a description of each Archetype, signs and symptoms of a spiritual awakening in that type, common Ascendent Spiritual Archetypes, associated colors, signs of balance and disharmony, governing organs, common ailments, and more. All the things you might want to pair up with your seeking experience!

There are other sections about how the Archetypes navigate spirituality, relationships, and community. I think these sections could have been moved into the individual sections of the Archetype just because it breaks out how each type navigates these categories.

My Favorite Part

I am a big fan of these types of books. They are fun and help me categorize my personality. I get to understand myself better and see that contrasted next to how the people I love may explore the same things differently. There is a recommended reading section under each Spiritual Archetype. Surprisingly, I had already read most of the books on the list for my Archetypes!

I also just love all of the little suggestions on what to use as supportive tools on your seeking journey. I found I should get myself an Angelite crystal. I will have to explore the Shine Your Light crystal shop in the back of The Healing Studio for some.

Conclusion

This is a good reference book to guide you in your spiritual journey. I don’t think this is a book that you read cover to cover for entertainment. I would guess you would want this book if you are a seeker yourself and you want to better understand your path.

Read the reviews and decide for yourself.
