Don't Get Hooked In

Have you ever heard the phrase "what you think of me is none of my business?” I love this! But often, I still care about what people think of me. Mostly because I can see how it changes people's energy, even if it isn't spoken out loud. I know it isn’t helpful for me to become concerned about their thoughts and opinions, but I am human too.

What about thoughts you aren’t present for?

What happens when people are telling stories to themselves and others about you, that you don't notice or you aren't part of directly? Or when realities are being formed in other people's minds about you and your actions that don't match your reality?

How does it affect your energy and how do you deal with psychic attacks from others that you aren't even aware of? This is when energetic boundaries help! I recommend learning all you can about your energetic boundaries. I particularly like Cyndi Dale's explanations on this topic in her book “Energetic Boundaries” or check out my class on Self-Healing 101

Other People’s Stories

How do you deal with stories, that are evolving around you, that you either come into late in the game (after much of the story has formed in everyone else's mind) or where you maybe don't ever really know what has happened. We are all affected by each other's thoughts, ideas, and energy. So even if ignorance seems like bliss, there is still a small part of you that is being impacted by what others are thinking and saying. This is why it is so important for you to check your role on this topic as well. But knowledge of something can change how you experience it.

When a story goes on around you and you are unaware it is impacting your field, then it isn't necessarily hooking your thoughts. This is a good thing, since much of your reality is created by what you think. As the issue grows around you, however, your energy starts to be invited to play, more and more.

If the story continues, you might began to hear rumblings about this story having to do with you. If you are a celebrity it would show up in the form of a tabloid, if you are an average person, you might just hear something in passing from a mutual acquaintance.

You might experience a sense of unease, distrust, or feeling the need to be overly cautious. That’s when your thoughts do start to play. You start to wonder where this uncomfortable sensation is coming from or want to get to the bottom of what a friend said.

Careful not to jump in!

This is a time to tread lightly. You don't want to push yourself into the next phase if you don't have to. Start asking yourself questions such as:

  • Is this uneasy feeling even mine?

  • Do I agree with the reality I am seeing form around me about me?

  • Is there anything I can do to change it?

  • Is there a reason to try and change it?

  • Where am I giving away my power consciously or unconsciously? Why?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, then back away and return to phase one. Manage your energetic boundaries by confirming what is your energy and what isn't. Then with intention and understanding, step out of the story that person is creating. Read more about separating your energy while having connection here.

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then now is the time to do the work of healing yourself. For guidance on how to do this, refer to my blog about history

If you get hooked in this phase, you are going to want to refer to the healing lesson blog on history repeating itself, because once you go beyond this phase, your thoughts have taken over and you are in it for the long haul until you figure out how to get out.

Your thoughts start contributing to the story and you are then actively involved in creating the reality that was started by others, even if you are fighting against it. You will have to look for how you got hooked in and what you are attempting to learn by playing in this reality field.

Simple, right? Ha! Remember to look early for the hooks of negative reality rather than wait until they are already in. It is also important to remember that you are in charge of your own thoughts and, at any time, you can choose to shift your contribution to the story inside yourself. A simple internal “nope” might do the trick.
