Do nothing

In today's fast-paced world, it's more important than ever to take time to do nothing. That's right, I said it: nothing. No work, no errands, no social media, no TV. Just sit back, relax, and let your mind wander.

Believe it or not, for most of us, doing nothing is the hardest thing of all to do. To just sit and be. Not listen, watch, do, or think. But here is the thing: when we are always filling the void with our own thoughts, actions, etc. we never let the void do its thing.

It may sound counterintuitive, but doing nothing can actually be very productive. When you give your mind a chance to rest, it can process information more effectively and come up with new ideas. It can also help you to de-stress and reduce anxiety. This is also where the magic lies.

Magical Co-Creating

The magic lies in the co-creation space with source. Think of it this way, if you asked a friend to help you paint a wall, and everywhere your friend went, you went with your paint supplies and painted there too, eventually the friend would just stop trying to paint and step back and let you do it all on your own. It might even make the friend a little offended that you didn’t trust them.

When we are trying to figure it all out ourselves, do it all ourselves, and be everything to everyone, we don’t make space for the reality around us to meet us in expansion. All that is there is you. But there is an opportunity for so much more to be there, if you let others work with you. Source has the opportunity to take what you have done and expand upon it.

This is the space where what you have spun up, can integrate and get coherent with the reality around you. Where you don’t define reality, with your actions and thoughts, reality can show you what can be. It is a very expansive practice of manifesting.

A few ideas on doing nothing

Okay, so most of you who know me, know I do nothing very little myself. If you're not used to doing nothing, it may take some time to get used to. But once you do, you'll find that it's one of the most relaxing and rejuvenating things you can do.

Here are a few tips for doing nothing:

  • Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down.

  • Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.

  • Allow your mind to wander. Don't try to control your thoughts, just let them come and go.

  • If you find yourself getting distracted, gently bring your attention back to your breath.

  • Do this for at least 10 minutes, but longer is even better. (Psst…this is why meditation is so powerful.)

  • Next time you feel like you need to take action on something, stop for two minutes first to just be.

Celebrate the Results

It is easy for us to celebrate the accomplishments you directly caused. But it is also important when using the law of attraction, to say “yes, thank you, more please” to the spontaneous miracles that happen in your life too. The more you notice that doing nothing works for you, the more expansive the practice can become. Document what you notice and what happens by journaling it, or simply sharing it with a friend.

In addition to the manifesting and mental benefits, doing nothing has also been shown to have physical benefits. For example, one study found that people who took a break from work to do nothing had lower blood pressure and heart rate than those who continued to work. (1) Another study found that people who took a break from social media had better sleep quality. (2)

So if you're looking for a way to improve your manifesting abilities, consider taking some time to do nothing. It may just be the best thing you can do for yourself.
