Joy Isn't Just a Feeling, It's Actually Medicine for Your Energy Field
(And you don't have to believe in anything "woo" to feel the difference!)
Think about the last time you laughed…really laughed. Or the last time you did something that made you feel completely, effortlessly alive. Did your body feel different? Lighter, maybe? Like something released? That wasn't just your mood shifting. That was your energy field responding.
Your Body Is More Than Just Biology
Most of us were never taught that your body isn't just a physical machine running on food and sleep. It's also an energy system. A living, dynamic field of information that's constantly responding to your thoughts, emotions, environment, and yes, your joy.
Every major culture throughout history has had a name for this. The Chinese called it qi. In Ayurvedic tradition, it's prana. Science calls it bioelectric fields. Whatever language you use, the core idea is the same: there is an intelligent energy that moves through and around you, and it profoundly shapes how you feel, heal, and how you show up in your life.
Within that system, you have energy centers (often called chakras), that act like hubs. Each one governs different aspects of your physical and emotional health. When they're flowing and balanced, life tends to feel easier. When they're blocked or depleted (from stress, old wounds, or patterns we've been carrying for years) things start to feel heavier and more difficult.
This is where joy comes in — and it's more powerful than most people realize.
Joy Is a Frequency and Your Body Knows It
In energy healing, we talk a lot about frequency. Fear, grief, and chronic stress carry lower, denser frequencies. Over time, they tend to contract the energy field, restrict flow, and contribute to the kind of exhaustion and disconnection no amount of sleep can fix.
Joy is the opposite. It's one of the highest-frequency emotions available to us. When you experience genuine joy, your energy field literally expands. Your chakras open and the bioelectric activity in your body shifts. Your nervous system moves out of survival mode and into what researchers call the "rest and restore" state, where actual healing happens. This isn't a metaphor, it's physiology meeting energy!
The problem is, most of us have been treating joy as optional. As something we'll get to once everything else is taken care of. A luxury, not a necessity.
But from an energy healing perspective? Joy isn't the reward at the end of the hard work. Joy is part of the healing itself.
Why We Block Joy Without Knowing It
Here's what I see again and again in my work: people who are exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected — not because life is terrible, but because their energy system has been running in a low-grade state of survival for so long that joy has started to feel unfamiliar…even unsafe.
When your system has been conditioned by stress, old trauma, or years of putting everyone else first, joy can actually trigger resistance. It can feel irresponsible. Like you haven't earned it yet or like something bad will happen if you let yourself feel too good.
That resistance lives in the energy body. It shows up as tightness in the chest, a low-level dread beneath the good moments, or an inability to fully exhale.
And here's what matters: you can work with it. Not by forcing yourself to be more positive but by gently, and intentionally, clearing the energetic patterns that are keeping joy at arm's length.
Three Ways Joy Heals Your Energy Field
1. It clears energetic interference
When you're genuinely in joy (not performed happiness but experiencing real delight), your energy field naturally starts to release what doesn't belong there. The noise, the static, the accumulated stress of just being a person in a busy world. Joy acts like a tuning fork, helping your system remember its natural, healthy frequency.
2. It opens your heart chakra
Your heart center is the bridge between your physical and spiritual energy. It's also the one most of us have learned to protect. Joy is one of the most direct pathways to opening it. Not in a vulnerable and exposed way, but in an expansive and connected way. When your heart chakra is open and flowing, you feel more like yourself — present and at home in your own life.
3. It grounds your spirit into your body
This one surprises people. We tend to think of joy as something airy and light, but real joy is actually deeply grounding. When you're fully present in a moment of delight, you're here. Not in your head and not in the future or replaying the past. You’re grounded in the now, where spirit and body are inhabiting the same space. In energy healing, we call that “embodiment” and it's one of the most healing states you can be in.
You Don't Have to Understand It to Feel It
I know this might be new territory. Maybe you've never thought about your body as having an energy field or maybe chakras sound a little far out. That's completely fine. You don't have to fully believe in any of this to start experimenting with it.
All you have to do is notice how your body feels when you make room for joy. How you feel when you stop treating joy as a luxury and start treating it as part of your daily self-care. How you feel when you let yourself laugh without immediately bracing for something to go wrong.
Where to Start
If you want to begin working with joy as a healing tool, here's a simple practice:
Once a day, ask yourself “What would feel genuinely good right now?”
I’m not talking about productivity, responsibility, or what you think you “should” want. I’m talking about what would actually feel good in your body, in that moment. Then, if at all possible, do that thing.
1. Micro-Moments of Presence (2–5 minutes)
Joy lives in presence, not in big future events.
Step outside and feel the air on your skin
Drink something slowly and notice the taste
Put your hand on your heart and take 5 slow breaths
This regulates your system so joy has somewhere to land.
2. Shift Your Attention (Train Your Brain)
Your brain is wired to scan for problems (and it’s very good at it). You have to gently retrain it.
Try this daily:
Write down 3 things that felt good today or ask yourself “What didn’t go wrong today?”
This builds a baseline of safety → which opens the door to joy.
3. Move Your Body (Without Pressure)
Joy is physical, not just emotional.
Dance to one song
Go on a walk without your phone
Stretch and notice where your body feels good
The goal isn’t fitness, it’s aliveness.
4. Reduce Joy Blockers
Sometimes it’s not about adding joy, it’s about removing what numbs it.
Notice:
Over-scrolling
Constant productivity mode
Being around draining people
Even reducing these by 10–20% can create space for joy.
5. Do One “Pointless” Thing Daily
Joy often hides in what your mind calls “unproductive.”
Sit in the sun
Rearrange a space just because
Listen to music and do nothing else
This signals to your brain that life is not just about output!
6. Connect (Even Lightly)
Joy expands in connection.
Send a voice note instead of a text
Make eye contact and smile at someone
Share something real (not just updates)
It doesn’t have to be deep, just genuine.
7. Let Yourself Feel Good (This One Matters Most)
A lot of people unconsciously block joy because it feels unfamiliar or unsafe.
When something feels good:
Don’t rush past it
Stay with it for 10–20 seconds
Let your body register it
This rewires your capacity to hold joy.
8. Create a Simple Joy Ritual
Create something you can return to daily or weekly.
Examples:
Morning tea + silence
Evening reflection on what felt good that day
Weekly solo date with yourself
Consistency builds emotional safety → which deepens joy.
Joy isn’t something you chase, it’s something you allow.
Want to Go Deeper?
This is the kind of work I do every month inside my Energy on Purpose community. I help people reconnect with their own energy system through guided meditations, card readings, and practices designed to clear the patterns that keep you stuck and bring you back into alignment with who you actually are.
If this resonated with you, come find me! Follow along, join the community, and let's start working with your energy on purpose (not by accident).
Because joy isn't something you stumble into when life finally cooperates. It's something you can choose…and your energy field is ready for it!
