Ground Yourself: Connecting with the Earth and Finding Inner Stability
While you are in a body you are always on the Earth but that doesn’t mean you are always connecting your consciousness to the planet. You might be paying more attention to your mind than your physical body. When this happens, your energy gets thrown off balance, leading to anxiety, stress, and a sense of being ungrounded. When you use consciousness to connect to the earth, you get grounded.
What Does "Grounding Your Energy" Mean?
Grounding your energy is about consciously reconnecting with the Earth's natural energy field. It's about finding a sense of rootedness, stability, and presence within yourself. Think of a tree with deep roots – it remains unyielding even in the face of storms. Grounding allows you to cultivate that same inner strength and resilience.
How to Ground Your Energy
Grounding yourself is as easy as shifting your attention to the base of your spine.
Start with a single point of awareness. Notice your tailbone, then notice the center of the earth. Go between those two points a couple of times.
Expand to a line of connection. Notice a connection between your tailbone and the earth's center, like there is a cord between the two.
Now notice the line turns into a double helix (see image to the right of the screen.) This double helix represents the information link between you and the earth.
Add movement to the double helix. Noticing that you are releasing excess energy down into the earth while receiving new, nourishing energy from the earth into your body.
Pay attention to how your body feels as you practice grounding. You might experience feelings of calmness, increased energy, or a release of tension.
Other Ways to Supplement Your Grounding Practice:
Walk Barefoot in Nature: Take off your shoes and walk on grass, sand, or natural earth. Feel the direct connection between your feet and the ground.
Spend Time in Nature: Simply sitting under a tree, gardening, or spending time near water can help you reconnect with the Earth's energy.
Earthing Equipment: If you can't easily access nature, grounding mats, blankets, or sheets can help you simulate the experience indoors.
The Importance of Making Grounding a Habit
Grounding is most effective when it becomes a regular practice. Try to incorporate grounding yourself as a regular morning practice. Even a few minutes each day can make a significant difference in your overall well-being. Once your consciousness gets used to the connection, it will become easier to do quickly.
